Finding the Song Inside the Story:
Writing the Lyrics and Music for Book 2 of the
Tiny Hero Series

When we began working on the second book in the Tiny Hero Series, we never imagined it would lead us into writing our very first song. Stories we understood, if you can call it that after writing and publishing our first book. Words on a page felt familiar. But music? That was both exciting and a little scary.
In this second adventure, the Northern Lights begin to dim, and Elfie and her friends must discover how to help restore their glow. As the story unfolded, it became clear that the solution didn’t belong only in dialogue or action – it needed a song. A song simple enough for young children to sing, gentle enough to feel safe, and strong enough to help bring the magic back.
That’s where the collaboration truly happened.
Chloe Gibson composed the music, writing a beautiful waltz that felt timeless and comforting, like a soft light moving across the sky. From the very first notes, it carried the wonder and calm the story needed. Bryn and Lynn worked together on the lyrics, carefully choosing words that young readers could understand, remember, and joyfully sing along to. That part was harder than we expected. Writing for children means every word matters – too many syllables, too tricky a phrase or the wrong rhythm, and the magic disappears. Like a musical guide, Kim Suedbeck sings the song on our website, leading children as they sing along learning the melody and lyrics.

There were moments of pure fun – laughing, singing lines out loud, clapping out rhythms, dancing a waltz – and moments that felt genuinely scary. Could we really do this? Would it work? Would children want to sing it? Finding the right balance between story, music, and simplicity was a challenge, but one we deeply loved taking on.
What kept us going was knowing why we were doing it: for the little ones who read our stories. For the Tiny Heroes who believe in magic, who sing without worrying about getting every note right, and who feel stories not just in their minds, but in their hearts.
This song is our first. We don’t know if there will be more in the future. What we do know is that we love how this one turned out. It belongs to the story in a way that feels natural and true, as if it was waiting there all along for us to find it.
Music has a way of finding our souls, no matter our age. It connects us, comforts us, and reminds us that even in moments when the lights seem to dim, there is always a melody – and a bit of courage – that can help bring them shining back. We hope that you will feel the same magic in the music that we felt when creating it.
